RUDY ELIZONDO

As a Fire Apparatus Operator (FAO) in the San Antonio Fire Department, Rudy has served the citizens of San Antonio since 1999. Always in pursuit of keeping in optimal shape, Rudy stumbled upon CrossFit and Body Armor and was immediately hooked. What was most captivating to Rudy about CrossFit was the similarity between the workload during a W.O.D (workout of the day) and fighting a fire, “How you feel during a CrossFit WOD is exactly how you feel during a fire.” Deciding that CrossFit would be an integral part of his firefighting career, Rudy pursued his CrossFit Level 1 Certification in September 2008 and an Olympic Lifting Certification in March of 2009. Rudy’s goal is to not only protect and serve the citizens of San Antonio while on duty but to also teach, guide and motivate them off duty through CrossFit. Rudy also hopes to one day aid the incorporation of CrossFit into the San Antonio Fire Department in order to keep fellow firefighters safe, strong and ready for any situation they may encounter.

MICHAEL GIRDLEY

Body Armor Coach Michael Girdley

With Body Armor changing his life so dramatically, Michael coaches in order to share “the love”.  He holds a CrossFit Level 1 certification, a CrossFit Gymnastics Certification and attended the Chad Vaugh & Ursula Garza Olympic Weightlifting workshop.  He focuses not just on the “how” of the movements, but the “why?”  As a yoga practioner, Michael is also very interested in how the mind is a key component in achieving physical breakthroughs.

Michael is a former 4-year letter winning NCAA Division I competitive swimmer.  He competed in the Patriot League championships for four years in the short and middle-distance freestyle and breaststroke events.  Michael brings this competitive expertise to his own Crossfit Games participation and in helping clients become better competitors and students of fitness.

He graduated cum laude from Lafayette College in Easton, PA with a honors degree in Computer Science.  After retiring his goggles and speedo, Michael moved to San Francisco and proceeded to eat too much vegan hippie food and sit in front of too many computers.  He returned to San Antonio in 2003.  During a boring “bootcamp” class at a globo-gym, he overheard two classmates talking about their “crazy” friend doing a program called “fitcross.”  That recommendation is all it took for Michael to reconnect with Paul Scheuer at Body Armor, whom he had known since the early 1990′s as a client of the Palestra.

Michael has a day job running Alamo Fireworks, Inc. and a small real estate investment firm.  He is the author of three computer programming books on the Java programming language that have been translated into five languages.  Michael lives in the King William neighborhood with his wife Shandelle and their two lovely blond sons (one of whom did the cutest “Deck of Death” WOD ever at age 4).

Remedios M. Dondoyano REMEDIOS “REMY” DONDOYANO

For over 2 years, Remey knows first-hand about achieving physical goals at Body Armor CrossFit. Her athletic experience is broad, ranging from tennis since the age of 8, to soccer, basketball, taekwondo, fencing, and women’s rugby. However, there was a point in her life when she wanted to start up a new sport that wasn’t specific to any particular skill but was an experience that required a well-rounded sense of fitness. It wasn’t until she discovered the diverse culture and lifestyle-changing effects of CrossFit that what she found was more than just a “sport”. Since August 2009, Remey has been able to start from no gymnastic experience to get-ups (kipping muscle-ups) and butterfly pull-ups, 10-minute miles to sub-7-minute miles, placing 2nd in her first open Olympic weightlifting competition, placing 40th in the 2011 CrossFit Games South-Central Sectionals, and placing 10th with the Body Armor affiliate team at the 2011 CrossFit Games Regionals in a blistering-hot Tomball, TX. As a service member in the U.S. Army (MOS: 68WN9, combat medic and physical therapy specialist), her APFT scores have gone from mere 280’s toward consistent 300+, thanks to the excellent training and coaching environment of Body Armor. Here at Body Armor, Remey’s desire to “expect the unexpected” and make continual PRs (personal records) never ceases.
Currently finishing her degree as a double-major in Athletic Training and Rehabilitative Science, with a minor in Psychology, at the University of the Incarnate Word, Remey is also working toward becoming a military physical therapist. She understands the importance of developing strength and conditioning, as well as preventing injury and recovering from existing ones. You can be sure that Remey wants to help you attain your personal goals at all states of your athletic ability.
